FTDR is a series on the Abelian Foundation’s Medium blog meaning“From the Devs’ Room”. This blog post will provide insights on the updates and progress that has been made in the past week, the decisions made regarding technological advancements and upcoming changes, or events to look forward to.
These are the notes from the tech team from the Secondweek of Febuary.

Abelian Desktop Wallet vs Abelian Mobile Wallet
Between the Desktop Wallet and Mobile wallet, the Desktop Wallet is still our recommended wallet. It supports the 24-word mnemonic list (i.e. recovery seed) which maximizes the security and privacy of users. The tech team is finalizing the development of a migration tool which can help us generate private keys needed for importing our Desktop Wallet accounts to the Mobile Wallet. Currently, you can export the private keys of your existing wallets and import those private keys into the Abelian Mobile Wallet using this tutorial on Notion,
Desktop Wallet v0.3.2 has been out for more than a month. It has had some nice touches which have received many great reviews by the community. In particular, the information of the synchronizing block height shown on the dashboard of the Desktop Wallet is really a sweet improvement. After adding this progress information, we have never opened the large text window of abec service log again.
We are looking forward to releasing more details in the coming few weeks. Please stay tuned!
Abelian Mobile Wallet Upgrade Schedule
Last week, we also reported the development of a new mobile wallet with a sneak peak of the new user interface. The new version will support biometric authentication and detailed transactional information which will further improve the experience of sending and receiving ABELs with the new mobile wallet. The expected time of releasing this new version will be the last week of February.

Upcoming Changes
Hard Fork on Block Height 280,000
This week, we would like to share more information about the forthcoming hard fork preparation. The Abelian Foundation is planning to make the hard fork happen at the block height 280,000 — in two months time.
The hard fork will enable multi-tier privacy preserving technologies. Besides the existing full privacy tier, after the hard fork, the Abelian network powered by abec nodes will support the pseudonymous tier which allows users to create pseudonymous ABEL wallets. By using this type of wallets, we allow users trace our transfer transactions and check our wallet balances on the block explorer in a similar way to that for the Bitcoin and Ethereum networks.
Users, after hard fork, can create two types of $ABEL wallets: one type is a pseudonymous wallet for interacting with exchanges; and the other one is a fully private wallet for HODLing their $ABELs as the Digital Gold 2.0. The fully private wallet will ensure that their $ABELs stored inside the wallet is completely anonymous and untraceable. $ABELs will be able to be transferred between pseudonymous wallets and fully private wallets.
The foundation expects all exchanges which support ABEL to use pseudonymous wallets so that we can provide auditing information of ABEL transactions by referring directly to the information available on the Abelian block explorer (https://explorer.abelian.info)
Abelian is building the foundation of a Post-Quantum world
Abelian is a Layer 1 blockchain engineered to withstand quantum threats. NIST, National Institute of Standards and Technology, has already approved multiple lattice-based cryptographic algorithms for quantum-resistant encryption and digital signature. With lattice-based cryptography, multi-tier privacy, and robust decentralization, Abelian ensures your digital assets to remain secure, private, and future-proof.
Join the race to quantum resistance
Abelian powers the next-generation Layer 1 blockchain, designed to protect your transactions, assets, and data against adversarial quantum attacks.
